Privacy notice
What we collect when you ask for a quote or send a message, why, and for how long.
Who we are
This website is run by HV Discover, London, United Kingdom. Office address: Unit 4, Meridian Works, Hackney Road, London E2, United Kingdom.
We are the controller of the personal data described in this notice, under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect
What you type into our forms:
- Quote request: your name, company, country, email, phone if you give it, cable voltage and length if you give them, your message, and the products and quantities in your quote list.
- Contact form: your name, email, company if you give it, and your message.
To keep spam and abuse out, the server that receives the forms also writes a short security log: a keyed hash of your IP address and of its network prefix (a code made with a secret key, not the address itself), the time and the result, and, for a request it refuses, your browser’s identification string. These entries are deleted after 180 days. The forms set no cookies.
We do not ask for payment details or account passwords on this site.
Why we use it
We use your details only for the purpose you gave them for, and the law lets us do so on these grounds (UK GDPR, Article 6):
- Preparing and sending a quote you ask for: taking steps at your request before a contract is entered into.
- Answering your message and asking follow-up questions about your cable: our legitimate interest in replying to the enquiries we receive.
- The forms’ security log: our legitimate interest in keeping the forms free of spam and abuse.
- If you become a customer: performing the contract (the order, delivery and support) and keeping the records the law requires of us.
We do not sell your details, and we do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask to be added. We make no decisions about you by automated means.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and quote requests that do not lead to an order are kept for up to 24 months after our last contact with you, then deleted.
If you become a customer, we keep your order and customer records for 6 years, as UK tax and accounting rules require.
Security log entries are deleted after 180 days.
Your browser
Your quote list is kept in your own browser’s storage until you send it. It is not sent to us before you submit the form, and you can clear it by removing the products or clearing your browser data.
This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising tools.
Besides the quote list and the quantities you enter, it keeps only two short-lived notes in your browser, for the current session: the answers from the short form on the home page, carried to the quote page, and a summary of a request you have just sent, shown on the confirmation page. It also remembers which sample trace the home page showed last, so that the next visit shows another one. None of this is sent to us unless you submit a form.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, object to our using it on the basis of legitimate interests, and ask for the details you gave us in a portable format.
Email info@hvdiscover.com with the subject “Privacy request”. We reply within one month, as the law requires.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk.
