Where it fits

The PG-10 is step 2. It prepares the fault for the reflectometer before it and the pinpointer after it.

Overview

The PG-10 is the smaller of the two surge generators, rated up to 10 kV and 1,000 J. It charges a capacitor and discharges it into the faulty cable, so a high-resistance or intermittent fault breaks down: the reflectometer can then pre-locate it and the pinpointer can hear it at the surface.

The surge voltage is adjusted without steps inside a 5 kV and a 10 kV range, and the full 1,000 J is available in both. The set fires one shot at a time or repeats them, and it also runs DC tests up to 10 kV at 10 or 20 mA.

Modes and settings are chosen on a colour touch screen.

Works with

Through the ARM Filter the PG-10 feeds the TDR-901 for arc reflection, and its discharges are what the AP-01 listens for.
