Where it fits

The CRT-015 is step 4. It puts the measured distance on the right street.

  1. Step 1: Pre-locate

  2. Step 2: Condition

  3. Step 3: Pinpoint

  4. Step 4: Trace route

Overview

A reflectometer measures distance along the cable, not along the street. Cables bend, cross roads and change sides, so a fault 1,284 m from the cable end can be well away from where a tape along the kerb would put it.

The CRT-015 transmitter puts a signal on the cable. The receiver picks it up at the surface, and the crew follows it and marks the route. The pinpointer is then walked along that line instead of across the whole street.

Works with

The CRT-015 turns the TDR-901’s distance into a line on the ground, and the AP-01 then walks that line.

TDR-901 reflectometer open in its orange hard case, the 7-inch screen showing a trace above a row of soft keys and a rotary dial.
